Springtime in her world

The Dandelion. Nothing more than a weed, a nuisance, an invader... lawn graffiti.

Unless you are a six year girl.

To a six year old girl a dandelion is a beautiful sign of Spring. A perfect little yellow flower, something so beautiful that you can hardly believe you are free to pick it... they don't let you pick the other pretty flowers. But a dandelion is special. It is an unloved flower, one that a little girl is free to pick and give to her mom. So it is loved.

As is she.

She will never know the warmth in my heart when I am handed this favorite flower of hers. "Keep it safe." I will, sweetheart, I will.

Great post. I totally remember picking dandelions for my mom - who would carefully keep them in a dixie cup by the sink.

That's so sweet. I'm always amazed at how kids continually make us look at the world in new ways.

Oh, and I finally got around to adding you to my blogroll. I can't believe how long I was a space cadet!

Awww! I am not a dandilion hater, usually. But with T 500 miles away and me here with a lawn mower I don't even know how to start, those little bastards are taking over my lawn!

At least a million times. That is how often I held a dandelion under my moms chin to see if she liked butter.

(where I grew up, if you held it under your chin and it reflected the yellow onto your skin, you supposedly liked butter----I know, I am strange---but hey, ALL THE KIDS did it;)

Gotta love it!

Thanks for the advice on the photo... I tried it. How do I know what contrast level is good? I really need to take a course.
